Construction began November 14, 2011 to add two lanes to US 301 in Duval and Nassau counties beginning just north of Baldwin and ending at Pickett Road in Callahan, a total of 17.3 miles.

Included in the construction will be the replacement of 11 bridges in six locations in Nassau County, including the railroad overpass over the Norfolk Southern Railroad, the south and north Brandy Branch Creek bridges, Thomas Creek bridge, Funks Branch Creek bridge and Funks Creek bridge.
